Message from GORDON

I'm trying to locate any and all info regarding this album with special emphasis on one cut that the album calls "When stars looked down". My preliminary searches have not come up with a composer or even that the song exists. It seems odd to me that a concept album such as this would have music on it that is not traceable to origin. Also...since the album is called Ballads, wouldn't Kenton have used well known ballads, and if not, wouldn't he have said something in the liner notes? (I can't find them either!) Anyway...the tune is just gorgeous and sounds like about 5 saxes out front with the opening refrain. By the way, listening to that tune I now know where Mancini got his scoring ideas. This is my first post so I hope to find some answers. Thanks for listening. Gordie-mesa,AZ

We have a page for Ruby Braff with links to five biographies (Ruby Braff) but have not found anything on Johnny Barnes. Do you mean guitarist George Barnes who is known for the five records he made with Braff as the Braff/Barnes quartet? His page is here: George Barnes
edited by admin on 4/6/2008

Let us know if we're missing your favorite jazz writer or musician. In general we include published artists that our visitors may be familiar with. Good candidates include persons who have contributed to one or more CDs on Amazon.com and whose main body of work is in the jazz genre.

You'll notice some exceptions in our contents. These are usually vocalists who introduced jazz standards.

JazzBiographies.com came about as a result of the development of JazzStandards.com. When researching biographies we found the popular search engines return pages of links to websites, but when you go to those websites there is often nothing there.

JazzBiographies.com has over 2000 pages and each one has either a written biography, links to sites that do have a written biography, or both.

Let us know what you think and what we can do to improve JazzBiographies.com.
edited by admin on 3/18/2008
