Kenny Baker was a vocalist and radio personality who first gained recognition as a regular on the Jack Benny show from 1935 to 1939. The popular tenor starred on Broadway in One Touch of Venus (1943) with Mary Martin and introduced the principle songs from the show, including “Speak Low.” That same year he appeared as himself in the film Stage Door Canteen.

Baker began his musical film career in 1934. His first starring role was in Mr. Dodd Takes the Air (1937) with Jane Wyman. He took the hit song, “Remember Me” by Harry Warren and Al Dubin, to number one on the Hit Parade. He introduced “Love Is Here to Stay,” by the Gershwins in The Goldwyn Follies of 1938 and had another hit with “Love Walked In,” also from that show. He starred in The Mikado in 1939 and appeared in the Marx Brothers’ At the Circus. He co-starred in The Hit Parade of 1941 and sang with both Cyd Charise and Judy Garland in The Harvey Girls (1946). In his last film, Calendar Girl (1947), he was the principal vocalist.
