Muzzy Marcellino made a name as a whistler of great talent. This “puccoloist” (a term coined by whistler Ron McCroby in the ‘80s to describe his art as puckering up and whistling in the piccolo range) performed the memorable theme songs from The High and the Mighty and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

But whistling was a sideline. Marcellino started out as a guitarist and singer playing in the house band at San Francisco’s St. Francis Hotel in 1932. That same year he introduced “Willow Weep for Me” with the Ted Fio Rito orchestra and joined that band in 1935. Marcellino led a combo on Art Linkletter’s TV “House Party” and served as musical director for 19 years. He also collaborated with Jimmy Dodd on musical numbers for Disney’s “Mickey Mouse Club” and recorded birdcalls for the Tiki Room at Disneyland.
